Stories, information and resources about World War 1 in the Lydiate area
In 2018 three Lydiate primary schools – St Thomas’s, St Gregory’s and Lydiate Primary (Lambshear Lane) – worked together on a local history project to learn about and to honour the lives of the local soldiers who fought and died in WW1. The project was financed by the Heritage Lottery Fund from its special ‘First World War – then and now’ pot.
The three schools worked in a collaborative partnership with HLF, local historians and Sefton Library Service. This website is the result of that collaboration.

Our short video turns the spotlight on the range of events and activities that formed the WW1 Lydiate project.
It includes pupils from our three partner schools -St Thomas’s, St Gregory’s and Lydiate Primary – taking part in digital research workshops run by Sefton Libraries.
The video also features a play presented by Quantum Theatre, Real History workshops and our special Remembrance Service, as well as listing the soldiers from Lydiate who gave their lives in the war.
